The Mackinac Bridge was closed and traffic was horrendous. With two young ones, we needed to find a place to eat and use the restroom. Came about the Hillside House and what a pleasant surprise. Facilities were clean, staff was friendly, and food came out prompt and delicious. Was a very nice way to forget about the traffic backup on the bridge. Would highly recommend.

The whitefish (broiled) was excellent. The chicken strips were lightly breaded, as they should be, and properly seasoned.

Breakfast was good. Service wasn't the greatest; we both ran out of OJ, was never offered more. Once we got our food, our waitress never came back to check on us.

This place was adorable! As a previous reviewer said, there were no cars in the parking lot, but the awesome reviews on Yelp led us here. My friend and I had been on a whirlwind tour of the UP (as she had never been up north before), and were pretty exhausted when we reached St. Ignace. Hillside House was a wonderful place for us to relax and have a great meal. The decor was cheery and homey. I felt like I was at my grandmother's house. It was very bright and we had a great view from our seats by the window. We had grilled cheese (pretty lame, I know, but it was good), and maybe the best tomato soup ever. Even as business picked up, our server was great and made us feel at home. It's totally worth stopping in for lunch. My only negative is that the prices were a little higher than I'm used to, but that could be because of the touristy-ness of the area.

The car test rarely lies. Friday evening fish fry was disappointing. The fish was very properly cooked but crap in, crap out. I'm used to much fresher fish. The family running the place was very attentive and friendly.

Very good service and tasty food. I had the meat lovers omelet and loved it! There is a good selection of food on the buffet as well.

We stopped in here on Fathers Day after a weekend at the Island, for a nice brunch with a view. I had high hopes that the meal would satisfy my dads craving for buttermilk pancakes, and they did! The staff is wonderful, they make you feel right at home and the menu was reasonably priced with a great selection for a self proclaimed breakfast snob like myself. The blueberry buttermilk pancakes where out of this world, paired with home made sausage and fresh coffee. The chefs suprise was also yummy packed with lots of veggies and meat and nice swirled rye toast. Don't miss out on the home made biscuits to accompany your meal! Look forward to visiting the Hillside house again and again!

Nice view from their deck! Whitefish sandwich was awesome, not too greasy. Homemade chips. Did not see their dimmer menu. So glad we stopped!

We came here looking for somewhere to have a late breakfast and this turned out to be a great place! Service was great, and the decor is very homey and quaint. There is also a beautiful view from the top of the hill of the lake! The coffee is also really good, and the food was ready quickly. I got Jude's Gourmet French Toast, which was delicious. My sister didn't think the pancakes were anything special, but my brother-in-law loved the Heavenly Hash Browns. Some of the food seemed pretty average, but the more unique dishes were definitely the way to go. I'd come here again if I'm in the area.

Great home cooked meals. Ribs are excellent and fish is fresh daily. Yummy. Homemade pies too!

The Hillside Restaurant is perched on a hill overlooking the bay at St. Ignace. The view is amazing, with a panoramic overlook of the water and Mackinac Island. If you need a drink before dinner, don't go to this restaurant, as no alcohol is served. We stayed because we really wanted to try their whitefish, which was amazing! With an entree this delicious, I would generally give 4 or 5 stars, not this time however. The salad bar, sweet corn, green beans, and rice were eminently forgettable. The salad bar was almost empty when we served ourselves. Although the hostess restocked the lettuce, everything else was low, and frankly not that special. The sweet corn (1/3 ear) was cold! The green beans were straight out of a can, and the rice was so overcooked and cold that it was inedible. The fruits of the forest pie was good , but not great. I saw an order of strawberry shortcake being served as we were leaving, it looked positively epic! If I go back, I will order just whitefish and the strawberry shortcake, and leave it at that. I recommend this restaurant if you really love well prepared fish, otherwise skip it.

Had a great breakfast. The red white & blue pancakes were delicious. Hostess and wait staff were very friendly. The restaurant was clean and homey. We would return the next time we are in St Ignace.

Came in right before they closed and got friendly, cheap, and good service. Just wanted some soup & the salad bar. The salad bar didn't have a lot of veggies in it, but it made do. The soup that day was beef vegetable, which was tasty, but not very warm. The view from the restaurant was great, and the menu seemed to have a lot of variety. Would recommend!

Hillside House Restaurant is a decent place to stop for a filling lunch. The interior decor was a bit dated, but clean and cheery. Hubby and I sat on the deck, which offered a lovely, if partially obstructed, view of the Straights. I had the whitefish reuben, which was nicely done, with tasty marbled rye. Hubby had the BLT, which was good, but nothing special. We both had the homemade chips, which were fresh tasting but a tad overcooked. Service was efficient and friendly.

If I could give 1/2 star I would. The food was frozen and reheated......the salad bar minimal and filled with iceberg lettuce and toppings popular in the early 80s......the pie was from a bakery served fresh from the fridge (not even room temp to help the juices run). The coffee was similar in flavor to diesel fuel with a sour aftertaste. If you enjoy reading inspirational messages about God and disgusting food.....this is the restaurant for you!

The Hilltop is in a great location overlooking Moran bay. Too bad the restaurant does not match the view . Super slow service - not a deal breaker but it was half empty. The deck is old and dirty. Tables are old wood that are just dirty . The special was three kinds of fish, White Fish and Smelt with I think Cod. The fish was two tiny pieces of oily bad cooked from frozen along with a pile of smelt. The fish was cooked in old oil that may have been below temp to cook. Very disappointing considering St. Ignace is a busy tourist town and anyplace with good food is packed nightly. I think that's why we got a table at 5:00 PM with no wait, shame on me that should have been a flag,

Got here at 11:30am and they weren't serving lunch at all, I'm not much of a breakfast person so I wasn't able to order any sandwiches or anything. Second of all my fiancé was going to get the breakfast Buffet and most of everything was emptied and we had to wait 15 for most of the buffet to be refilled. Fiancé also said they had the worst eggs he has ever had, so overall not impressed.

This is fun. The food was absolutely comfort food and was very good. Hubby had the meat loaf, which was very tasty although it had been reheated on the grill, REAL mashed potatoes and fresh sauteed green beans. I had the spaghetti pie and it was amazing! Plus they bring you a bread stick that is fried, fresh, hot & crispy, heaven! The salad bar, which comes with the meal, was just okay but I have seen much worse. Service was friendly although not fast but we weren't in a hurry. The view is very nice. We would go back if in the area.

I have thrown away better food than they served us. The ribs were one giant not of gristle and fat slathered in some cheap off the shelf sauce. My wife's steak was cooked beyond recognition (ordered rare...delivered charred ).

Very pleased with this quaint restaurant. We sat outside. Service was very good. All four of us enjoyed our entrées, but the big hit of the night was the broiled whitefish - delicious!

This place is so cute, with a great view of Lake Huron. It was an old house, has the curved plaster between the rooms and the original wooden floor and painted brick fireplace. and a huge bathroom, with an old school "restroom" sign that I coveted. Tons of potted plants and flowers and a entrance awning give it a homey feel, tho ithe sunflower interior is a little frou-frou for my tastes. There were no cars here the day we stopped at high noon on a weekday so we were a little leary. But the American grill food is great - went there for lunch and then back for breakfast the next day. I had a California Rueben, which was turkey, cole slaw and 1000 island style dressing on grilled marble rye with homemade potato chips. All delish. For breakfast the next day I had a "gourmet" french toast which was "coated" with almonds and corn flakes, cinnamon and seasonings. Really needed no syrup. It was fantastic. Prices are reasonable.
